Why dance?

Chris’ early training in dance and music was integral to his development as a professional artist.

He followed his sister Nikki into dance classes at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and Yalenka Ukrainian Dance. Mom Jo also took jazz, tap and african dance classes at DJD, and even dad Tim took tap lessons. At one point, Jo, Nikki and Chris attended the same tap class together. Chris danced from the ages of 4 to 14, though some friends were lucky to see his moves from time to time. He also joined the Youth Dance Unlimited performance group when he was 10. He loved to dance and attended many classes and summer camps at DJD over the years. The Reimer family maintained a close relationship with DJD — Nikki and Jo both worked at the front desk, and Jo served on the board of directors for 10 years.

The Chris Reimer Legacy Fund Society commits to making a yearly donation to the Decidedly Jazz Danceworks Children's Bursary program. The family is honoured to know that each year, one boy gets the chance to attend a summer dance camp at DJD in Chris' name, an opportunity that meant so much to Chris.
